JOPPIE VILLAGE – Joppie Village is set to benefit from a R5.5 million state-of-the-art sports facility, following the official site handover by the municipality on Friday, 17 October 2025.

The ceremony, held at the Joppie Assemblies of God Church in Ward 06, was led by Cllr Conny Ramothwala, the municipality’s Head of Infrastructure. She urged the community to work closely with the contractor to ensure the project’s success.

“This is a facility for the people of Ward 06. Let us all protect and support its development,” said Ramothwala.

The six-month project will feature a Clear Vu fence, two multi-purpose combo courts for tennis, netball, basketball, and volleyball, an ablution block for men, women, and people with disabilities, a water connection, a sewer system with a septic tank, and a 30-metre high mast light with six floodlights.

The project will be implemented by BWN/Mamorogo JV, with NFM Consulting Engineers as consultants. A Project Steering Committee will be elected to monitor progress and encourage community participation.

Fifteen job opportunities will be created through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), prioritizing nine women, eight youth, and one person living with a disability. Posts for a Community Liaison Officer (CLO)and Safety, Health, and Environmental Representative (SHE Rep) will be advertised soon.

Ward 06 residents welcomed the development.

“We are very blessed in Joppie,” said community leader Ndhuna Mavhavaza. “This year alone, we’ve received both electricity and a sports facility.”

Construction starts immediately, with completion expected in April 2026.
