BALFOUR – In a shocking incident, four siblings, aged between 36 and 45, were arrested on Saturday, 17 August 2024, for the alleged murder of their 71-year-old father in Balfour.
The grim discovery was made by community members around 11:00 am, when they found the lifeless body of the elderly man on a couch. The police and emergency services were promptly called to the scene, where it was confirmed that the victim had multiple gunshot wounds. Several empty cartridges were also recovered from the scene. Unfortunately, the paramedics could do nothing but confirm the victim’s death.
Following the discovery, police immediately opened a murder case and launched a thorough investigation. Early findings from the investigation revealed that the victim had previously obtained a Protection Order against his children, indicating a troubled relationship.
The swift action by the police led to the arrest of the four siblings—three daughters and one son—later that same day in Heidelberg, Gauteng. They were apprehended without incident.
The suspects appeared before the Balfour Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 20 August 2024, where they were formally charged with murder.
