LEFARA-Mopani District Executive Mayor, Cllr. Pule Shayi, marked his birthday on Monday morning with a meaningful gesture by handing over a fully equipped borehole and water storage tank to Kuhlula Farming Projects, a cooperative based in Lefara Village, Ward 22 of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality.
The handover forms part of the Executive Mayor’s Birthday Outreach Programme, an initiative aimed at giving back to communities and supporting grassroots development efforts.
Kuhlula Farming Projects, established in 2017, is a growing cooperative that has successfully gained access to major food retail markets through its consistent supply of fresh produce.
The cooperative has become a beacon of community empowerment and sustainable agriculture in the region.
In his remarks, Executive Mayor Shayi highlighted the significance of supporting local cooperatives in the fight against hunger and unemployment. “This donation is aimed at helping the cooperative continue its contribution to food security in our communities. Projects like these prove that with support, small-scale farmers can make a big impact,” he said.
The newly installed borehole and water tank will enhance the cooperative’s irrigation system, ensuring uninterrupted production and improved crop yields throughout the year.
The event was attended by local councillors, community members, and agricultural stakeholders, who commended the mayor for his hands-on leadership and commitment to rural development.
The Kuhlula Farming Projects team expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating that the borehole will go a long way in strengthening their operations and ensuring they continue to serve both local households and commercial clients.
