GLEN COWIE – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Makhuduthamaga Sub-Region has strongly condemned the state of St Rita’s Hospital in Glen-Cowie Village, describing it as “deplorable” and “unacceptable.”

The remarks came after the party conducted an oversight visit to the health facility on Wednesday, 3 December 2025.

EFF Councillor in Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM), Gift Machaba, led the visit and expressed outrage at the hospital’s condition. “The hospital is not clean at all, inside and outside. Patients arrive as early as 04:00am and are left unattended for hours. It’s a travesty,” Machaba said.

During the visit, the EFF team observed that the hospital relies on water tankers for its daily needs, and the clinic within the hospital operates with only four staff members, leaving patients underserved.

“The rubbish bin remains unattended, contributing to the foul smell around the hospital. It is unacceptable that our people are forced to receive healthcare in such conditions,” Machaba added.

The party also criticized the hospital’s management, alleging that appointments are influenced by political motives rather than merit. “All these shenanigans are a result of comradeship appointments to positions of responsibility, driven by political motives,” Machaba said.

The EFF has pledged to continue advocating for improvements at St Rita’s Hospital to ensure the community receives quality healthcare in a safe and sanitary environment.

At the time of publication, the Limpopo Department of Health had not responded to inquiries regarding the hospital’s condition.
