Singer and former reality TV star Christall Kay said she will release a new single called Saviour by the end of this year. She told DRUM a new album and her own TV show could follow.
Christall became well known on The Real Housewives of Johannesburg. It has been a few years since she last appeared on the show.
“I certainly haven’t forgotten the spotlight, and I see this time as more of a break than anything else, especially with regard to my music,” she told DRUM.
She said Saviour is a direct message to people who criticise her. “It’s about telling them to get out of my way because I’m taking my rightful place in the world,” she said.
Her latest released single is called God knows I could fall for you. She said she wrote it many years ago as her marriage song. She played the first draft at her wedding.
Christall said she released the song a few months ago. She said it was picked for a sync licensing deal for a global Netflix series.
After Saviour, she said, the next goal is a brand new album. “I’m ready to hit the road, connect with my fans in person, and give them the high-energy, unforgettable performances they’ve been waiting for,” she said.
She also spoke about plans for her own TV show. She said it would be called Keeping it Christall clear.
“I still get stopped on every corner by people screaming my name and asking when I’ll be back on television,” she said. She promised a show the whole family could enjoy.
Christall said she is also writing an autobiography. She said the book will cover what working on The Real Housewives of Johannesburg set was really like.
“It’s going to give the public a raw, unfiltered insight into what happens beyond the glitz and glamour,” she said. She said this includes hardships and foul play she faced behind the scenes.
She has also launched her first perfume, called Falling. She said the scent has a playful side and a serious, grounding side.
Away from entertainment, Christall said she now works in a new field. She studied high-ticket sales and took a remote job with a TV network based in Miami.
She said she works there as a casting manager and high-ticket sales closer. She said working from home lets her spend time with her family and travel when she wants.
“Transitioning from a household TV personality into the high-ticket sales corporate world was incredibly humbling,” she said. She added that she had to build credibility from scratch.
Christall said leaving the cameras gave her a sense of stability and peace. She said her son is entering his teenage years and she wants to be there for him.
“Real life has its challenges, but it is just as fulfilling as being in front of millions of people,” she said.
According to DRUM, the past few years have also brought public challenges for the star, including legal battles over her home. Her earlier song Set Apart charted on Billboard.
Christall said the next six to 12 months will be busy. She plans to release Saviour first and then work on the new album.
