MAWA : Makgope Clinic in Mawa village under Greater Tzaneen was broken into by armed men this past weekend.
The armed men gained access to the Clinic by breaking the palisade fence and proceeded to assault and rob security personnel of their cell phones before demanding firearms.
This incident has forced the Limpopo Department of Health to suspend the call system at the said medical facility.
Department spokesperson Neil Shikwambana says the suspension is to ensure that the department can work on measures to guarantee the safety of staff members in the clinic.
He says it will be impossible for clinics to operate at night while criminals threaten their safety, especially now that the Department has employed just over 300 nurses, the majority of whom will be placed in primary healthcare facilities to expedite the 24-hour functioning of clinics.
