TZANEEN -Traffic came to a halt on the R36 road outside Tzaneen following a fatal head-on collision near the Ledzee turn-off, a few kilometres from the Viva Yarmona Fuel Station, on Wednesday afternoon.
The tragic crash occurred around 17h15 and involved two motor vehicles. One person was declared dead on the scene, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Paramedics responded swiftly and transported the injured patients to Van Velden Hospital for further medical treatment.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Government Mortuary by Forensic Pathology Services.
Authorities temporarily closed the road to allow emergency personnel to manage the scene, leading to major traffic congestion in the area.
The cause of the collision remains unclear at this stage, and investigations are currently underway.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed, pending notification of the family.
Motorists are urged to remain cautious on the roads, particularly during peak travel hours.
