POLOKWANE – The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) has elected Tsakani Shiviti as its new secretary-general following the successful conclusion of its 27th National Congress held at the University of Limpopo in Mankweng.

ANCYL president Collen Malatjie was re-elected and retained his position, while former deputy secretary-general Tsakani Shiviti was elevated to the key role of secretary-general. In her new position, Shiviti will be responsible for coordinating and administering the affairs of the youth league of the ruling party.

Shiviti hails from Collins Chabane Municipality in Limpopo and brings extensive leadership experience to the organisation. She previously served in the student movement as deputy president and has held various leadership positions over the years, which are expected to strengthen her capacity to execute her new responsibilities within the ANCYL.

Under the leadership of Malatjie, the ANCYL has been credited with reviving the organisation after years of decline following the departure of its former president, Julius Malema. The current leadership collective has received praise from various quarters, with supporters describing it as a renewed and energetic force that strongly resonates with the country’s youth.

The election of the new leadership marks a significant moment for the ANCYL as it seeks to rebuild and strengthen its structures, while advancing the political, social and economic interests of young people across South Africa.

The key office-bearers elected unopposed at the congress include deputy president Fransicor Dyantyi from the Eastern Cape, secretary-general Tsakani Shiviti from Limpopo, deputy secretary-general Zama Khanyase from KwaZulu-Natal, second deputy president Venus Blennies-Magape from the Northern Cape, and treasurer-general Jacob Tau from Mpumalanga.
