Media personality Zanele Potelwa has shared an honest look at her busy work life, saying rest often comes second to her television and radio jobs.

She opened up in a post on Instagram, ZAlebs reported. The post came with a video that followed her through one of her long working days.

The video showed her starting early in the morning. It then showed her getting ready for Expresso, the morning television show she works on. Later in the day she went to meetings before heading to her shift at 5FM.

Potelwa said sleep often has to wait while she meets the demands of her television, radio and production work. She said her schedule can stretch from late night duties straight into an early call time for Expresso.

Before she described her routine, she said she had gained some “fuel” from a recent break. She added that she still felt her usual urge to keep moving.

The presenter said sacrifice does not look the same for everyone. She gave credit to colleagues who worked on several productions in a single day.

She named Bongani and Botlhe, as well as the wider Expresso team. According to Potelwa, the team moved from the Tropika launch to a live heritage special, and then carried on with more work after that.

Potelwa said her drive comes from her faith and a sense of purpose. She said sleep is important to her. But she said giving her best to the chances she believes God has put in her hands can sometimes mean giving something up.

She was careful not to make a lack of sleep look exciting or like something people should copy. ZAlebs said she presented the post as a true picture of where her career is now. She also used it to show the hard work of the teams around her.

The Tropika host admitted that she feels tired much of the time. Even so, she said she is very thankful for the chance to grow in her career.

Potelwa said goals that matter usually come with some kind of trade. She said that could mean losing sleep, missing a social event or giving up something else people enjoy.

For her, these trade offs are part of the road to success. Her message to followers was that everyone has to choose which hard path they are ready to take.
