MARLBORO – The chairperson of the Alexandra, Randburg, Midrand, and Sandton Taxi Association (ARMSTA), Victor Molefe Moekeletsi, has been shot and killed in a brazen daylight shooting in Marlboro Gardens on Thursday morning, 30 October 2025.
The deadly incident unfolded on Viola Crescent, just minutes away from the Alexandra Taxi Association (ATA) offices. According to preliminary reports, five people were shot, with two confirmed dead and three others injured.
Police say multiple vehicles were involved in the ambush, including a red minibus taxi and other unidentified cars. The scene has been cordoned off as law enforcement officials and emergency services continue their investigation.
ARMSTA spokesperson Tladi Lepolesa, who was visibly emotional, confirmed Moekeletsi’s death but said further details could not yet be shared as the matter remains under investigation.
“It’s a dark day for our association. We are shocked and saddened by this loss,” Lepolesa said.
Reports indicate that Moekeletsi’s bodyguard also died at the scene, while another bodyguard and a passing motorist were rushed to hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds. A suspected getaway vehicle believed to have been used by the gunmen was later found abandoned near Setjwetla, with visible bloodstains inside.
The attack comes just a month after taxi bosses declared peace among rival associations at a landmark event held on 19 September 2025 at the Kwa-Bhekilanga Sports Grounds in Alexandra, aimed at ending decades of bloody taxi wars in the region.
The latest killing has reignited fears of renewed taxi violence in Alexandra and surrounding areas. Earlier this year, in July, an ARMSTA patroller was also shot and killed in the township.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and are appealing to the public for information that may assist in their investigation.
