BODUTLULA VILLAGE – Police in Limpopo are investigating a violent mob attack in Bodutlula Village outside Lebowakgomo, where community members allegedly set alight a traditional healer’s house, two cars, and her consulting room (indumba) on Friday, 24 October 2025.
According to reports, the incident unfolded around 08:00 when a female traditional healer, identified as Ditshele Moja, noticed a group of residents gathering outside her yard.
The local headman later addressed the crowd following allegations made against the healer at the tribal office. However, after his departure, tensions escalated and some community members began throwing stones into the yard, injuring her relatives and damaging property.
The chaos resulted in two motor vehicles being damaged, all 18 windows of the house smashed, and both the healer’s home and indumba being set on fire, causing extensive damage.
Preliminary information suggests that the attack followed allegations that the sangoma had chained and assaulted a Zimbabwean national days earlier. The incident reportedly angered residents, who then demanded her removal from the area.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that cases of malicious damage to property and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) have been opened. “The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned acts of mob justice and destruction of property, warning that such behavior will not be tolerated.
She further confirmed that no formal criminal case has been opened against the complainant,” Ledwaba said.
Members of the Public Order Police have since been deployed to stabilize and monitor the area as investigations continue.
Police have urged anyone with information that may assist in identifying and arresting those involved to contact Detective Sergeant Molilo Maphosho on 082 414 3345 or share details anonymously via the My SAPS App.
