POLOKWANE – Netball South Africa (NSA) has confirmed that Cecilia Molokwane remains suspended from all netball-related activities, despite her public announcement that she is resuming her duties.

The clarification comes after a press conference held by the suspended NSA President on Thursday in Polokwane. Molokwane, who was suspended by World Netball in April 2025, told members of the media that she was returning to office with immediate effect.

“I’m resuming office as in now, no longer suspended,” said Molokwane.

However, NSA swiftly responded, stating that the press conference was not sanctioned by the federation and that no official communication has been received from World Netball indicating the lifting of Molokwane’s suspension.

“To our knowledge, Ms. Cecilia Molokwane remains suspended under the directives of World Netball. We have not received any communication indicating otherwise,” NSA said in a statement.

Acting NSA President, Mami Diale, emphasized that the organization has not engaged with Molokwane regarding her return.

“We are aware of the utterances regarding her resuming her role as President of Netball South Africa. As Netball South Africa, we have not engaged with Ms. Molokwane and are unaware of her return to the federation,” said Diale.

NSA reiterated that it remains a member in good standing with World Netball and will continue to comply with its statutes and disciplinary regulations.

“As things stand, Ms. Molokwane is still suspended and will not be resuming her duties as President of the organisation, as outlined in World Netball’s official correspondence to council members,” NSA added.

The federation further stressed that non-compliance with World Netball’s directives could have severe consequences for South African netball, affecting players, coaches, administrators, and umpires.

“It is for this reason that we have strictly complied with World Netball’s directives over the past six months. To us, netball comes first — and netball must always win.”

NSA expressed hope that the matter will be resolved in due course to allow the organization to focus fully on the development and advancement of netball in the country.

“Netball South Africa is committed to transparency and good governance as we await the resolution of this issue,” the statement concluded.

Molokwane remains suspended in line with World Netball’s Disciplinary Regulations until further notice.
