MAKOTOPONG – A tragic head-on collision on the R81 near Makotopong claimed the lives of two people and left two others seriously injured on Sunday morning, 20 July 2025.
The accident involved a green Hyundai Elantra and a white VW Polo Vivo, which collided under yet-to-be-determined circumstances.
Emergency personnel from Limpopo Emergency Medical Services and the South African Police Service arrived promptly at the scene.
Unfortunately, two individuals were declared dead on impact, while two others were treated for serious injuries and transported to a nearby hospital.
Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the crash. In the meantime, motorists are being urged to exercise extreme caution when travelling along the R81, especially near the Makotopong area.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been released pending notification of their families.
This incident adds to the growing concern over road safety in the province, particularly on major routes such as the R81.
Law enforcement officials have reiterated calls for drivers to adhere to speed limits and remain vigilant.
