Amapiano star Young Stunna released his second album, Busisiwe, on Wednesday, 21 October. He dedicated it to his late great-grandmother, IOL reported.
The album has 16 tracks. It came out exactly five years after his first album, Notumato, which was released on the same date in 2021 and went platinum.
Addressing his great-grandmother in a Facebook tribute, he wrote: “Mama, this album is yours.”
The musician, whose real name is Sandisile Msimango, said the album honours the woman he called Mama. He said her love and support helped shape his childhood and his music.
Her name was Busisiwe. At home, everyone called her Mama because of the way she cared for the whole family.
Young Stunna said he grew up in the care of his great-grandmother and his grandmothers. He described this as a blessing that gave him a strong base of love.
According to the report, she made sure the children never went to bed hungry and that nobody in the home was left behind.
“From the day we were born until we got our own pozies, she was always there,” he said.
He said his great-grandmother never tried to stop him from making music. She gave him money to travel to gigs and made sure he had enough to get home safely.
“She believed in my dreams so much, even when everyone else in the family was questioning them,” he said.
She also played a part in his love of music. She sang in a choir, and he said her choir often came out on top in competitions.
She held Sunday church services at home. Young Stunna joked that there was no way to escape church, but he said the songs gave him comfort.
He said those gospel songs helped him feel that everything would be all right in the end.
His interest in fashion also started with her. As a child, he borrowed her shirts and wore them with chinos.
He said this early taste of styling is one of the reasons he has never had a stylist. He said much of what people now see in him started at home.
Young Stunna ended his Facebook message by saying he loves her and wishing her eternal peace.
