LEEUWFONTEIN—A woman from Leeuwfontein, outside Marble Hall , is under investigation after allegedly giving birth at Tebogo Farming and Investments on Tuesday, October 21.

According to witnesses, the woman gave birth while at work before allegedly discarding the infant into the stream. A man who was nearby reportedly jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue the baby.

Despite his quick response, the newborn—believed to have been born prematurely—was found in critical condition and later showed no signs of life.

Farm workers who witnessed the incident were left traumatized. “We saw her holding the baby, and moments later, she threw it into the canal. We couldn’t believe what we were seeing,” one of the witnesses said.

It is believed that the woman, believed to be residing at the Leeuwfontein RDP section, allegedly gave birth on duty and then attempted to dispose of the child. The motive behind her actions remains unknown.

Emergency services were called to the scene, but sadly, the baby was declared dead upon their arrival. Police investigations are ongoing, and the woman is expected to face serious criminal charges once discharged from medical care.

Police have urged the public to refrain from speculating while investigations continue.
