ALEXANDRA – The bail hearing of 22-year-old Jo-Ann Ntokoto Mabasa, who is accused of murdering her boyfriend in Midrand, has been postponed to 1 October 2025.
Mabasa appeared briefly at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 26 September, facing a charge of murder following the death of her 31-year-old boyfriend, Xichavo Ntsanwisi, an employee of the Greater Giyani Municipality.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 22 September 2025 at Colnbrook Estate in Noordwyk, Midrand.
Police reports indicate that Mabasa, originally from Giyani, allegedly confessed at the scene and was arrested without resistance. Officers recovered a knife with a yellow handle, believed to be the murder weapon, next to Ntsanwisi’s body.
According to investigators, Ntsanwisi was found lying on the kitchen floor with a fatal stab wound to the upper chest near the neck.
Investigators have also obtained a video, recorded in May 2025, in which Mabasa is seen threatening her boyfriend. She had reportedly dismissed the video as a joke at the time, but authorities are now treating it as potential evidence.
Paramedics pronounced Ntsanwisi dead at the scene. His sudden death has left his family, friends, and colleagues devastated.
Community members in Giyani and Midrand have expressed shock, with many calling for justice as the investigation continues into the events leading up to the fatal altercation.
Xichavo Ntsanwisi will be laid to rest today, September 27.
Mabasa has been remanded in custody until her postponed bail hearing on 1 October 2025. Police say investigations are ongoing.
