MOKOPANE – A horrific attack unfolded on Wednesday night, 08 October 2025, when two passengers were shot dead and several others robbed inside a bus travelling along the N1 road near Nyl Plaza, approximately eight kilometres before the Nylplaza Tollgate. The incident occurred at around 21:40.
According to police reports, the complainant, a 42-year-old bus driver from Zimbabwe, had departed from Power House in Randfontein, driving a Volvo 60-seater bus with 54 passengers on board. The driver had picked up passengers at various points, including Midrand and Pretoria, en route to Zimbabwe.
It is alleged that two male passengers seated at the back of the bus suddenly produced firearms and pointed them at the other passengers. One male passenger, estimated to be 30 years old and whose identity has not yet been confirmed, attempted to disarm one of the suspects. Several other passengers also tried to intervene.
During the struggle, the suspects fired multiple shots inside the bus, fatally wounding the 30-year-old male and an unknown female estimated to be 25 years old.
After the shooting, the suspects robbed passengers of an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones. Reports indicate that an unknown vehicle, whose make, model, and registration are not yet known, had been following the bus and stopped behind it after the shooting. The suspects then fled the scene in that vehicle.
Police have since opened two counts of murder and armed robbery. The suspects are still at large, and investigations are ongoing.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned the incident and directed that a dedicated task team be established to track down those responsible.
The Mokopane police, under the Waterberg District, have launched a massive manhunt for the armed suspects involved in this brutal attack.
Anyone with information that can assist in the arrest of the suspects is urged to contact Sergeant Matsipi Makwela on 076 786 1447, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111, visit the nearest police station, or use the MySAPS App.
