MBOMBELA—Two people lost their lives in a tragic collision involving a Mercedes-Benz and an articulated truck in Riverside, Mbombela, during the early hours of Sunday, November 24, 2024.
The crash occurred at approximately 04:14 at the R40 and R37 intersection.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, a man, tragically died on impact. His passenger, a woman, was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the car’s driver may have been speeding, though the exact circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
Emergency services and law enforcement were on the scene to assist and launch an investigation. The intersection was temporarily closed to traffic as the wreckage was cleared.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to speed limits and exercising caution, particularly at intersections and during early morning hours when visibility may be reduced.
