MAKHUBIDUNG-A 35-year-old traditional healer also a Prophet allegedly raped a 15-year-old teenage girl at Makhwibidung village in Greater Tzaneen.
According to the police report, on Wednesday 07 May 2025, the victim was brought by her mother to the suspect’s place for the prophet’s services, as they believed she was sick. For the session, she then left the victim with the suspect.
The suspect promised the victim services and told her that the ancestors had told him to have sexual intercourse with her because it would heal her and that it should remain between them, and she would receive training to become a sangoma as well.
The victim was allegedly raped repeatedly between May 11 and May 13, 2025.
The victim fled the place, leaving her possessions at the Prophet.
When the mother realized that her daughter fled , she went to the Prophet to get her belongings. She was told that she needed to pay an amount of money. She then reported the incident to the police, which was when the victim informed the police about the rape incident when she was in the Prophet’s home.
A rape case was opened on Sunday, 01 June 2025, and the docket was transferred to Tzaneen FCS for further investigation.
The suspect was positively identified and immediately arrested for rape, and he was detained at Maake police station.
Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS) and the Mopani Tracking Team, apprehended a on Monday, 02 June 2025.
He will appear before Maake Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 04 June 2025, on charges of rape.
Police investigations are ongoing.
