Newborn baby found in a plastic bag abandoned near brickyard at Makotopong outside Mankweng

MANKWENG – Police in Sebayeng have launched a manhunt for a woman who allegedly gave birth to a baby girl and later abandoned her near a brickyard at Makotopong, Kgatla Section, outside Mankweng on Sunday morning, 19 October 2025, at around 06:00.

According to police reports, a female passer-by discovered the newborn baby abandoned under a thorn tree along the road. The infant was wrapped in a black jersey and placed inside a plastic bag.

The concerned woman immediately called for help from community members, police, and emergency medical services.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities found the baby still alive and crying. Fortunately, she had no visible injuries. The child was taken to a local clinic for medical attention and is reported to be in a stable condition.

Police have since opened an investigation and are appealing to members of the public to assist in locating the mother of the baby.
