MUSINA-A South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldier was caught on video confronting a would-be illegal immigrant from Zimbabwe near the Limpopo River, close to the Beitbridge Border Post, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb illegal border crossings.

According to information received, SANDF members arrested a Zimbabwean national who allegedly attacked soldiers with stones while demanding to be allowed to continue smuggling people into South Africa.

The suspect is believed to be part of a human smuggling syndicate that facilitates the illegal crossing of Zimbabwean nationals into South Africa using small boats, charging fees for passage across the Limpopo River.

SANDF members reportedly received intelligence about the illegal operation and pursued the suspect throughout the day. The pursuit ended with the suspect’s arrest near the river.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon, where he will face charges related to human smuggling and obstructing members of the security forces.

The SANDF continues to maintain a heightened presence along the border as part of ongoing operations aimed at combating illegal crossings and transnational crime.
