NAMAKGALE-A 24-year-old man appeared in the Lulekani Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, facing charges of rape and kidnapping.
The suspect was remanded in custody, and his case was postponed to Wednesday, March 26, to appoint a legal aid representative.
The arrest stems from an incident that occurred on Monday, March 17, 2025, at approximately 22:00, in Majeje village, Namakgale policing area.
The victim, a 23-year-old woman, had visited her boyfriend, the suspect, at his residence. When she refused his request for sexual intercourse, he allegedly forced himself on her, threatening to strangle her if she resisted.
The victim was held captive in the suspect’s room until Sunday, March 23, 2025, when she managed to alert a member of the public via cellphone. The police were notified, and they rescued the victim, arresting the suspect immediately.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the police for their swift action in apprehending the suspect. The case is ongoing, with the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit in Phalaborwa handling the investigation.
