Jonsson Workwear will be the brand on the front of the Proteas men’s Test shirt, Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Tuesday. It is the first time in five years that the Test side has a headline sponsor.
The players will wear the new shirt for the first time in the opening Test against Australia. That match starts at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium in Durban on Friday, 9 October.
“The front of our Test shirt has gone without a partner for a long time, so it means a great deal to see that change in the season our World Test Champions play at home for the first time,” CSA chief executive Pholetsi Moseki said.
Moseki said Test cricket remained the format that defined the team. He said having Jonsson Workwear on the front of the shirt was a strong vote of confidence in that format.
“To see it come to life as the Proteas take on the world’s best in front of their home supporters is a proud moment for everyone at CSA,” he said.
The shirt deal is the main part of a partnership that runs for several years. Under the deal, Jonsson Workwear also becomes the Official Workwear and Apparel Supplier to CSA.
The company is not new to South African cricket. It joined CSA as an Official Sponsor of the Proteas in August. Its logo already appears on the sleeves of the ODI and T20I kits for both the Proteas men and the Proteas women.
Nick Jonsson, the chief executive of Jonsson Workwear, said the deal brought together “two South African brands that represent hard work and performance.”
“The Proteas carry the hopes of the nation on the world stage and in many ways reflect the grit we see in hardworking people across South Africa every day,” he said.
“This partnership reflects a shared belief that success is earned through dedication, teamwork and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” Jonsson added.
The Proteas men will play eight Tests at home this summer. Their opponents are Australia, Bangladesh and England.
These will be the team’s first home Tests since they won the ICC World Test Championship in 2025. South Africa won that final at Lord’s.
The Test side last had a main title sponsor in April 2020. At that time, Standard Bank chose not to renew its four-year deal because of boardroom problems at Cricket South Africa.
South African Breweries signed a once-off deal for the World Test Championship final at Lord’s. The Castle logo appeared on the sleeve for that match.
CSA also announced a second sponsor over the past weekend. ClearScore joined as the Official Credit Product Marketplace Partner to CSA and the Proteas.
That deal also runs for several years and covers both the Proteas men and the Proteas women. ClearScore branding will appear on the sleeve of the Proteas Test shirt, in matches at home and abroad.
