TOLWE — Police in Limpopo have confirmed the identity of the farmer who was found murdered inside his farmhouse near Baltimore in the Tolwe policing area.

The victim has been identified as 77-year-old Attie Mahne, whose life was tragically cut short in what is suspected to have been a violent robbery. Mahne was discovered tied up and unconscious inside his farmhouse. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the scene but declared him dead upon arrival.

Several valuables were allegedly stolen during the attack, including a firearm and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police have since arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the murder and robbery. The suspect appeared before the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 03 December, where he was remanded in custody. The case was postponed to allow for the appointment of Legal Aid representation. He is expected to appear again at the Tolwe Periodical Court on Thursday, 04 December.

During the arrest, police recovered the farmer’s .38 Special revolver along with six live rounds of ammunition.

According to police, a manhunt for a second suspect is currently underway.
