MANKWENG – Scores of people flocked to McDonald’s Paledi Mall outside Mankweng on Tuesday, November 11, to grab the fast-food giant’s R30 burger deal as part of its 30th birthday celebration in South Africa.

The nationwide promotion, launched by McDonald’s SA to mark three decades of serving South Africans, offered customers a Big Mac meal for only R30 when redeemed through the McDonald’s app.

At Paledi Mall, long queues formed early in the morning as eager customers — both young and old — waited patiently to take advantage of the special offer. Some described the atmosphere as “fun but chaotic,” as the crowd continued to grow throughout the day.

However, not everyone managed to get their meal. Several customers were left frustrated and disappointed after the store’s ordering system went offline, temporarily halting transactions and causing delays.

Meanwhile, scooter delivery services also made good business, as riders were kept busy with a constant stream of orders throughout the day from customers who preferred to avoid the long queues.

Despite the technical issues, many still celebrated the initiative, saying it was “a great way to give back to loyal customers.”

McDonald’s South Africa confirmed that the promotion forms part of its month-long campaign to celebrate its 30th anniversary in the country, with several in-store and app-exclusive deals planned throughout November.

The company encouraged customers to use the McDonald’s app to stay updated on future promotions and to redeem offers digitally to avoid disappointment during high-demand periods.
