POLOKWANE – A Grade 12 female learner allegedly poured boiling water on a male learner during a matric camp at a secondary school in Seleteng Village outside Lebowakgomo in the early hours of Sunday, 26 October 2025, around 04:30.
Preliminary reports indicate that the 19-year-old male learner was allegedly attacked by an 18-year-old female classmate while learners were camping at the school in preparation for their final examinations.
It is alleged that the male learner was asleep inside one of the classrooms when the suspect confronted him, accusing him of touching her private parts. The victim reportedly denied the accusation, and the suspect left the classroom — only to return moments later and pour boiling water over him.
The victim sustained serious burn injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police in Lebowakgomo, under the Capricorn District, have since opened a case of Assault with Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH). No arrest has been made at this stage as investigations continue.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, has condemned the incident and instructed investigators to handle the case with urgency.
“We take incidents of violence, especially among learners, very seriously. Such acts have no place in our learning institutions and must be dealt with decisively. The investigation must uncover the full circumstances surrounding this incident so that justice is served,” said Major General Scheepers.
The motive behind the attack remains under police investigation.
