DStv has started a test that gives DStv Select customers seven days of access to its DStv Sports package at no extra cost. The test began on 29 September 2026.
DStv Sports has 17 sports channels in total. The Select package, which starts at R299 per month, gives customers access to 11 of them. During the free week, Select customers can watch all 17 channels.
“DStv is testing a new benefit that gives qualifying customers seven days of access to the next package up, at no extra cost,” the company said in a release shared with Hypertext.
“The test begins with DStv Select customers starting from 29 September, giving customers a week of access to the new DStv Sports package. The benefit will roll out to other DStv packages, should testing be successful by the end of the year,” DStv added.
Not every Select customer will qualify. DStv said the benefit is for people who pay their subscription on time and in full.
“Customers who pay month to month, in full and on time, automatically receive seven days’ access to DStv Sports at the start of their new subscription period. No sign-up is required, and customers return to their usual package once the 7-day period ends,” the company said.
This means customers do not need to apply or call DStv to get the extra channels. The free week starts on its own when a new subscription period begins.
Willington Ngwepe, the CEO of MultiChoice, said the company wants to give customers more value.
“We told South Africans to expect more, and we meant it. Our new packages were just the beginning. We’ll continue to find ways to give customers more value from their DStv subscriptions and the customers on the Select package will be the first to enjoy this benefit, with more to come before the end of the year,” Ngwepe said.
MultiChoice, the company behind DStv, is now owned by Canal+.
The free sports week follows a bigger change to DStv’s offering. In September 2026, DStv announced a new set of channel packages for South African viewers.
Six new Core packages went live on 17 September 2026. According to Hypertext, sports channel access was one of the most important parts of the new packages for South African customers.
DStv has not yet said which other packages will get the same benefit. The company said the offer will be extended to other DStv packages if the test is successful by the end of the year.
