The Drama Factory in Strand has announced a November programme of music and comedy, with six shows running from 8 to 29 November, the District Mail reported.

The line-up includes two tribute concerts to The Rolling Stones, two comedy shows, a German jazz singer and a family Christmas show.

“A dose of laughter or dancing along is the perfect way to take a breather, sit back, relax and recharge your energy,” said Sue Diepeveen, founder of The Drama Factory.

Diepeveen said the end of the year can feel busy with work deadlines, school concerts and holiday planning. She also said the venue can host year-end functions, with live entertainment, a fully stocked bar and a small, relaxed space.

The month opens on Sunday, 8 November, at 16:00 with All You Need Is Love. The show is a tribute to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

It stars Duck Chowles on guitar and vocals, who is often called the “Mick Jagger of South Africa”. Guitarist Andy Murray joins him on stage.

They are backed by the Retro Rewind Band. The band features Karl Hering on bass, Alan Lloyd on drums and Tony Drake on keyboards.

On Monday, 9 November, at 19:30, comedian Nik Rabinowitz brings his show Mountain Jew to the venue. He tells his life story using real family photographs, old family documents and fast jokes.

German singer, pianist and composer Alma Naidu performs on Monday, 23 November, at 19:30. She mixes modern jazz with pop and singer-songwriter styles.

Her second album, Redefine, reached number three on the German Jazz Charts. Her first album, Alma, made the top 10.

Naidu has toured Europe, Brazil, India, Japan, Nepal and Mongolia. In South Africa she will play with a trio, performing songs from both albums and new music.

She has won the BMW Welt Young Artist Jazz Award, the Kurt Maas Jazz Award and the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize.

On Tuesday, 24 November, at 19:30, Sami Hall presents her one-woman comedy show, Why I’m still single (and other stupid questions). The show pokes fun at the questions people in their thirties often face.

Gimme Shelter: A Night of Rolling Stones Music follows on Thursday, 26 November, at 19:30. Four Cape Town musicians, Jake Gunn, Ruben Gerritz, Jean Marais and Wouter Reyneke, make up the Gimme Shelter Band.

The band will play Stones hits such as “Paint It Black” and “Wild Horses”, along with some lesser known songs.

The programme ends with Kersklanke: Sounds of Christmas on Saturday, 28 November, and Sunday, 29 November, at 16:00. Petru Wessels, Carel Trichardt and Katrien Holm tell Christmas stories set to music.

Wessels and Trichardt put the show together, with Holm on piano. Kersklanke has been staged in Pretoria for more than 20 years and is now coming to the Boland.
