HOUGHTON-Just days after resigning from the MK Party, former Chief Whip Colleen Makhubele has joined Power FM, with her new role set to begin on 1 March 2026.

Makhubele tendered her resignation as a Member of Parliament for the Jacob Zuma-led uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) with immediate effect on 23 February 2026.

Her departure follows months of internal party turbulence. On 5 November 2025, John Hlophe removed Makhubele as the party’s parliamentary chief whip and replaced her with Des van Rooyen. She was reinstated the following day by Zuma, who subsequently suspended Hlophe.

However, Makhubele was again removed as chief whip in January 2026, though she remained an MP until her resignation last week.

Prior to her role in Parliament, Makhubele served as Speaker of Council in the City of Johannesburg and was also the former president of the South African Rainbow Alliance. She has held senior leadership roles in business and public entities, including Chairperson of the South African Post Office and Chairperson of the Board of the Metropolitan Trading Company.

In a statement, the station also known as POWER 987 announced a refreshed programming line-up effective 1 March 2026, aimed at strengthening its national offering.

The station confirmed that Makhubele will anchor POWER Perspective weekdays from 20:00 to midnight.

“POWER 987 continues to elevate its programming offering with the addition of influential national voices,” the statement read.
With her extensive background in governance, public accountability and economic policy, Makhubele is expected to position POWER Perspective as a flagship platform for rigorous national dialogue
