MOOKETSI-Zimbabwean farm worker (42) Sentenced to Life Imprisonment by Tzaneen Regional Court for Raping 12-Year-Old Girl at ZZ2 farm Mooketsi.

The identity of the accused remains undisclosed to protect the victim and prevent secondary trauma.

The court heard that the incidents occurred between 2020 and 2021 at ZZ2 farm in Mooketsi, where the accused and victim stayed in the same compound.

The accused lured the girl by spiking her drink on one occasion and forcibly assaulted her on another while watching television.

The victim became pregnant, and the matter was reported by her sister, leading to the accused’s arrest.

State Prosecutor Isaac Mahlangu highlighted the severe impact on the victim, including diminished school performance and withdrawal from social activities. Presiding Officer Antoinette Lamminga emphasised that the court found no substantial reason to deviate from the mandatory life sentence, given the gravity of the offence.

The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the sentence and commends the efforts of the prosecution team and investigators in ensuring justice for the victim.
