MOKOPANE – A 54-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after being caught speeding at an alarming 177 km/h in a 120 km/h zone on the N1 freeway near Mokopane.

The motorist was behind the wheel of a black Range Rover when he was stopped by traffic officials during routine speed enforcement operations. He was immediately taken into custody and is expected to appear before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 9 July.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has since issued a stern reminder to all motorists to observe speed limits and prioritise road safety.

“Speeding remains one of the major contributors to fatal crashes on our roads. We urge all drivers to be responsible and ensure the safety of themselves and other road users,” said a departmental spokesperson.

This arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by provincial authorities to clamp down on reckless driving and promote compliance with traffic laws, particularly along major routes like the N1.
