POLOKWANE-The lifeless body of a six-year-old boy was recovered from the floodwaters on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, after being swept away during a tragic flooding incident at Uitanhage Farm in the Waterberg District.
The boy’s death follows a harrowing sequence of events that left a family trapped in their tin house amidst heavy rains.
Around noon on that fateful day, the couple, along with their child, found themselves in a dire situation when relentless rainfall flooded their home.
As the waters continued to rise, the couple managed to escape by climbing to the roof of the house, but unfortunately, their child was swept away in the rapidly rising floodwaters.
The local farming community quickly mobilized for a rescue operation, calling for aerial support to assist with the search.
By late afternoon, the boy’s body was found and retrieved from the water near the farm. The couple, understandably shaken, was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, though they were not physically harmed.
Parents are being strongly encouraged to remain vigilant and ensure the safety of their children in such hazardous conditions.
