POLOKWANE- Makhadzi Entertainment has issued an official statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding the recent controversy involving the burning of the event stage at the Kwas London Annual Fun Games and Music Festival on December 26 in Makwassie, North-West.

According to the statement, Makhadzi, the renowned South African musician, did not appear at the event due to a series of contractual issues with the event promoter, Ismael.

The statement provided insight into why the performance did not take place, revealing that the promoter failed to fulfill the financial obligations outlined in the signed contract.

The agreement for Makhadzi to perform at the festival was made in good faith. On November 19, 2024, Makhadzi Entertainment received a contract from Ismael, the promoter, which outlined key terms of the engagement. According to the terms, a 50% deposit was to be made prior to any promotional activities, and the balance of the payment was to be settled at least 14 days before the event.

While the initial deposit and an additional R3,000 for a promotional video were received, the remaining balance was not paid within the agreed-upon 14-day period leading up to the event. This breach of contract was the primary reason Makhadzi and her team did not attend the event.

In the statement, Makhadzi Entertainment expressed regret over the situation, especially the disappointment of her fans in Makwassie. The artist reiterated that she and her team only proceed with events once all financial commitments are fully met, as per the terms outlined in the contract. The failure to settle the remaining balance within the agreed time frame led to Makhadzi’s non-appearance.

“We sincerely apologize to our dedicated fans in Makwassie,” the statement read. “We were looking forward to performing for you, but unfortunately, we had to adhere to the terms of the agreement. We understand your disappointment, and we promise to make it up to you in the future.”

Despite the unfortunate turn of events, Makhadzi assured her supporters that she remains committed to delivering high-quality performances and thanked them for their continued support. The artist confirmed that she looks forward to performing in Makwassie in the near future, once all contractual matters are resolved appropriately.

“We value our fans and will always strive to give them the best experience possible,” Makhadzi added.

In the wake of the event’s cancellation, reports surfaced of the stage being set on fire by disgruntled individuals, allegedly in protest of Makhadzi’s absence. While Makhadzi’s statement did not directly address this act of vandalism, the incident has sparked widespread conversation on social media and among local communities.

Makhadzi Entertainment is yet to comment further on the damage caused to the event venue. However, the focus of the statement was clear: the decision not to perform was based solely on the promoter’s failure to adhere to the terms of the signed contract.
