MOKOPANE – A 42-year-old Zimbabwean national has been arrested in Mokopane after he was caught driving a stolen vehicle allegedly en route to be smuggled out of South Africa.

The arrest took place on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, following a joint operation by the Anti-Smuggling Task Teamand the Provincial Tracking Team, with assistance from Tshimollo and Shadowsecure private security companies.

Authorities received a tip-off about a white Toyota Corolla Cross travelling from Gauteng towards the Beitbridge Border Post in Limpopo, suspected to be destined for illegal export.

Law enforcement units strategically monitored the vehicle’s route and managed to intercept it along the R101 road in Mokopane. Upon questioning, the driver failed to produce any proof of ownership. Further investigation confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen a day earlier, on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, at Lenasia SAPS in Gauteng.

The suspect was immediately apprehended and taken into custody. He is expected to appear before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 14 November 2025, where he will face a charge of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

Provincial police have commended the swift collaboration between law enforcement and private security stakeholders, emphasizing their ongoing commitment to combating cross-border vehicle smuggling syndicates operating across Limpopo.
