BOTLOKWA-Stokvel members from Nyakelang in Botlokwa, were left devastated on Monday after four armed men ambushed their meeting and fled with their hard-earned savings.
The incident occurred around midday as the group gathered to share money they had been saving since January.
One of the stokvel members, believes the robbery was an inside job. “When the men approached us, they demanded the money with precision. They knew exactly what they were after, which means someone among us leaked our plans,” she said.
While she did not reveal the exact amount stolen, she confirmed it was substantial.
The members, who had spent the year contributing to the stokvel, expressed their shock and disappointment. “One day, the person responsible will be exposed. This betrayal is painful for all of us.”
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating the robbery. Authorities are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to come forward. Community members can contact the SAPS Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111 or visit their nearest police station.
