PHALABORWA- A social club for women known as Women of Substance Phalaborwa was launched a social club for women, was launched at Bushveld Terrace Hotel and Restaurant on Saturday, June 12.
According to the Club’s President, Virnicia Mathebula, the mission of Women of Substance is to create a free, safe, fun and friendly space where women meet, share ideas and experiences; and also tackle mental, physical and emotional health, as a community.
“I wanted to create a ‘village’ or circle of sisterhood for women to build relationships, discuss issues affecting women, network, support and empower each other. We will also play games, have movie nights, cooking classes and girl trips. Guests will also be invited for educational and motivational talks” said Virnicia.
Ba- Phalaborwa Municipality former Mayor, Joe Mathebula expressed words of encouragement to the women, saying that they must be strong and make their presence felt, because they have a role to play in our society. He also said that they must not allow themselves to be dominated by men.
Virnicia further said that the club would also give support to existing Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) in the community. “I did not want to reinvent the wheel since I’m still a member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Phalaborwa. My vision is to see a Women of Substance club in every town and province in our country”, she stated.
As a fun activity, the women were asked to practice how to say ‘hello’ and ‘good afternoon’ in Chinese which resulted in many hilarious moments. So far, the club comprises of 70 women.
The membership is free and open to woman from the age of 28-years and older. Meetings will be held every second Sunday of the month at different venues in order to support local businesses.
