POLOKWANE-A woman captured on video hitting and strangling her one-year-old boy with her foot on the chest has been released on bail.
On Saturday, 05 August 2023, the father of the toddler brought the matter to the attention of the Nordwood Police Station in Gauteng.
A case of Assault GBH was registered against Nthabiseng Nhlapho and the matter was immediately transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection, Sexual Investigations (FCS) Unit.
The mother appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on Monday, 07 August 2023.
The mother was released, and matter was ot placed on the court roll as the SAPS was instructed to first collect both cellphones of both parents for further investigation.
The SAPS has already begun with processing of the cellphone’s concerned.
“The South African Police Service (SAPS) will leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice for the one-year-old child who is seen being assaulted in a video that has gone viral allegedly by his biological mother.” Police said
The child was removed by the SAPS and handed over to the Department of Social Development (DSD) for placement.
