Woman Died after tree fell onto her house in Phalaborwa

MAJEJE VILLAGE-A woman is dead after a tree fell onto her house on saturday evening at Majeje Village in Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality.

The 21-year-old Tintswalo Mbiza died after a severe thunderstorm with powerful winds which damaged over 50 houses area.

Her four (4) year Old Child was rushed to hospital after she sustained minor injuries.

According to the reports received by Tzaneen Voice the Mopani District Municipality’s disaster management team is busy working with stakeholders at local level to assist the affected families with temporary shelter and blankets while further assessments are carried out.

Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality Mayor, Cllr Merriam Malatji accompanied by the Speaker, Cllr Eric Hlungwane and Chief Whip, Cllr Didodo Rapatsa have this morning, visited the family while Mopani District Municipality’s Executive Mayor Cllr Pule Shayi is scheduled to visit the affected families tomorrow.

Mayor Cllr Merriam Malatji expressed shock and sadness by the incident. “On behalf of the leadership of the municipality, stakeholders and residents at large, we are saddened by the untimely passing of young woman after the tragic incident”. We are devastated and struggling to come to terms with the destruction of their homes and lives” she said

It was further reported that the Mopani District Municipality is working closely with everyone, including the Department of Social Development to ensure that the families receive the support they need during this difficult time. They are appealing to all the affected families that may not have been visited by the team to contact the ward councillor, ward committee members, local municipality or Disaster Management’s Centralized Communication Centre on 0153067000/0605511911.
