BELA-BELA -A female driver was arrested on the afternoon of 5 March 2025, after she was caught speeding at 171 km/h in a 120 km/h zone on the N1 near Bela-Bela.

The incident occurred just hours after the same driver had received a R1000 fine for speeding in Mokopane earlier in the day.

Authorities were alerted to the woman’s reckless driving after she was clocked at more than 50 km/h above the speed limit, prompting immediate action by the traffic officers.

The driver’s behavior raised serious concerns about road safety, especially in areas known for heavy traffic.

The Limpopo Department of Roads and Transport has strongly condemned the woman’s actions, emphasizing the importance of adhering to speed limits and the potential dangers of reckless driving.

A spokesperson for the department Tidimalo Churne reiterated the need for all drivers to exercise caution, obey traffic laws, and understand the risks that come with speeding, not only to their own lives but also to other road users.

The woman is expected to face legal consequences for her actions, with further investigations underway.
