MODJADJISKLOOF-The police in Modjadjiskloof have opened a case of kidnapping. This comes after a female suspect, who was wearing sangoma regalia, allegedly abducted a child in Modjadjiskloof, Greater Letaba, earlier this morning.

It is reported that the 3-year-old toddler was in the company of her mother, who is a street hawker in town, when the suspect allegedly approached them under the guise of a buyer wanting to buy shoes. It is further alleged that while the mother went to look for the correct size, in the blink of an eye, the suspect had snatched the child and vanished.

Allegedly, after discovering that her child had been taken, the mother quickly alerted people nearby and police were immediately alerted.

According to Sergeant Vincent Montsha, Modjadjiskloof police station communication officer, a search was immediately instigated and the police left no stone unturned to stop the suspect in her tracks.

“All taxis, cars, and shops were searched. Taxis leaving town were ordered to stop and not let anyone off. As luck would have it, the child was found in a taxi that was making its way to Ga-sekgopo. She was found in the company of a woman who appeared to be mentally challenged”,Montsha said.

The swift response by our members led to the arrest of the suspect and she expected to appear in court soon.

The child was reunited with her family unharmed.

Police plead to parents to be on high alert and make sure their children do not leave their side to avoid such unfortunate occurrences.
