Woman allegedly gang raped by five men

POLOKWANE-Three men were arrested by members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Modimolle following the gang-rape of a woman at the Phagameng location.

Police say around 01:40 a 35-year-old woman was with her boyfriend coming from the local tavern when they met five men, one known to the couple.

One of the men reportedly invited the couple to his house for further entertainment.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, upon arrival, the suspects threatened the boyfriend while others dragged the woman to the bedroom and took turns raping her.

“The boyfriend managed to escape and alerted the police about the incident and they rushed to the to the scene.

On arrival, police found that the suspects had already fled the scene and the victim explained that all five suspects took turns in raping her.”

Ledwaba said three of the suspects were arrested shortly after the incident with assistance from the community.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers said police  must ensure that no stone is left unturned

in tracking down all the perpetrators of this crime and bringing them to book.

Five counts of rape were opened and three suspects aged between 27 and 36 will appear before the Modimolle Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
