POLOKWANE-Limpopo provincial police have reported and warned motorists that are traveling on the N1 road to be extra vigilant. This comes after there has been an increased number of road spiking tactics being used by criminals on major roads across the province.

The police indicated that the modus operandi is that the criminals target roads that are quiet at night to rob motorists of their belongings particularly towards month end.

A motorist who recently fell victim to the crime has alluded to this statement and issued a stern warning to other drivers to be more careful.

“My tyres were spiked while I was driving in the Mookgophong area. When I realized that the tyres were flat, I swayed onto oncoming traffic, lost control of the car, and as a result failed to stop. I missed hitting another car going in the opposite direction. I ended up completely off the road but happy I had no injuries “, he relayed.

Motorists are advised to be on the lookout for sharp objects placed on the road and try to reduce speed when traveling early morning or at night on major roads.
