MOKOPANE – A 25-year-old man driving a white Volkswagen hatchback will spend the Easter weekend behind bars after he was caught speeding at a staggering 214 km/h in a 120 km/h zone on the N1 near Mokopane.

The arrest has prompted a stern warning from authorities, who continue to emphasize the dangers of reckless driving, particularly during the high-traffic Easter period.

“Reckless driving will not be tolerated, especially during the Easter long weekend. Slow down and arrive alive. Let’s work together towards a shared goal of Every Day Without A Road Death,” said a provincial traffic spokesperson.

The driver is expected to appear in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court soon.

Meanwhile, the Limpopo Department of Transport has warned motorists to brace for heavy traffic throughout the long weekend.

“Heavy traffic is expected to resume from this morning and continue into midday on roads leading into the province and around places of worship,” the department said.

Affected routes include the N1 and R101 from Pienaarsrivier to Polokwane, as well as the R71 and D4040 towards Boyne.

Law enforcement officers are strategically deployed to manage traffic flow and enforce road safety regulations, including cracking down on speeding and other violations.
