University of Venda suspends a staff member for demanding bribery from an applicant

THOHOYANDOU- The University of Venda has suspended a staff member who tried to swindle money from an applicant in exchange for admission space. 

“The University of Venda (UNIVEN) management has learned with displeasure that a UNIVEN staff member was demanding payment of a bribe from an applicant in exchange for admission. 

The identified staff has been suspended pending disciplinary action” University Spokesperson Dr Takalani Dzaga said. 

The applicant who applied for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) took to social media to expose a University staff member, who is employed as an administrator dealing with the application system for demanding R3 500 in exchange for enrollment.  

In the Whatsapp conversations that the prospective student shared on Twitter, the said University administrator known to the publication, texted the PGEC applicant with her student number stating that he saw her application on the portal and how much is she willing to pay to get admission.  

When the lady asked for assurance, the money swindler staff member said:  

” You will never be sure, but the fact that I got your personal information should be assurance enough our services start from 3.5k, but for assurance’s sake, you can pay half now, then the rest of the amount you will pay after admission”. 

The University’s management said serious measures will be taken against staff members who are found to be involved in this kind of unethical behaviour that brings the institution’s into disrepute. 

The UNIVEN’s SRC President Gudani Tshamano said the staff member is tarnishing the University’s name and found guilty must be expelled
