MANKWENG- The University of Limpopo seems to have turned EFF student command (EFFSC) ‘s turf, as they chalked up their 6th SRC victory ahead of ANC- aligned South African Students Congress (Sasco) in a space of 11 years.
The red baret’s student movement won 12 out of 17 seats in the recent UL SRC elections with a walloping 8 481 votes ahead of Sasco who got 3 seats, with 2 046, while SUCA, also ANC- aligned got 1 seat, with 670 votes and SCO claimed a seat also, with at least 542.
Since its participation in UL SRC elections in 2013, the EFFSC has recorded 6 victories and Saco won twice, while both in 2013-2014 and 2020-2021, it was a transitional-led SRC.
Sasco’s historic dominance in the Turfloop campus seems to be dwindling as even on its twice SRC victories in 2018-2019 and 2021-2022, it didn’t win with the outright majority but emerged through coalitions.
The new UL Student Representative Council (SRC) will be led by Jacob Mangena as president and Kamogelo Ramoraga as deputy president.
While Thabo Ramatshisa was elected as secretary and Lerato Nkoana as treasurer.
