TZANEEN – On Tuesday, 1 October 2024, the newly established multi-million rand health centre, Tzaneen Healthcare Hub, officially opened its doors, marking a significant milestone in the region’s healthcare sector.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by key stakeholders and members of the local community, all eager to witness the launch of a facility that promises to make a significant impact on local healthcare services. Among the dignitaries was Dr. Elias Maowasha, co-owner of the hub, who expressed pride in the range of specialized medical services the facility will provide under one roof.
“The Tzaneen Healthcare Hub is designed to address the growing healthcare needs in our community by offering a variety of medical specialties in one convenient location. This will not only reduce the need for patients to travel long distances but also improve the overall quality of healthcare in the region,” said Dr. Maowasha.
In addition to its medical services, the healthcare hub is playing a critical role in education and skills development. Thirty interns from Letaba TVET College have been placed at the facility, where they will gain valuable hands-on experience in various administrative and management roles, including Human Resource Management, Management Assistance, and Office Administration.
Mr. Moshoma Benjamin, Acting Principal of Letaba TVET College, emphasized the importance of the partnership between the college and the healthcare hub. “Our students stand to benefit greatly from exposure to real-world applications and industry challenges. When businesses collaborate with colleges to provide practical experience, it enhances the learning experience and produces better outcomes for both the students and the industries they will serve.”
Construction of the hub began in 2022, and it is strategically located off the R71, just 650 meters from Mediclinic Tzaneen, behind McDonald’s. Spanning a 3,280 m² space, the healthcare hub will house consulting suites for doctors and other medical professionals, providing a wide range of services to the community.
The opening of the Tzaneen Healthcare Hub marks a new chapter in healthcare provision and educational collaboration in the region, with hopes of improving services, creating job opportunities, and fostering a stronger healthcare ecosystem in Tzaneen.
