TZANEEN: Residents of Tzaneen may see the name of a well-known street in town renamed.

The popular Danie Joubert Street may have a new name in the foreseeable future.

This follows a proposal submitted by Vukosi Makhubele to the Limpopo Provincial Geographical Names Committee.

The submission was made on November 24th at the Greater Tzaneen Municipality chamber.

The Danie Joubert, which is essentially the main street in Tzaneen town could bear the name of Ndavi Nokeri, if the submission is approved and granted the green light.

Born in Gavaza village, Nokeri is the former Miss South Africa for the year 2022, the first Miss SA to come out of Tzaneen.

The 24-year-old also matriculated at Ben Vorster, where she also won various modelling accolades.

The famous street is currently renamed after Danie Joubert, a man who was elected as the Mayor of Tzaneen twice as far back as May 1929.

Joubert is the founding father of Joubert & May Attorneys, a law firm based on Boundary Street in Tzaneen.

With the committee set to decide on whether the name change proposal will be approved or not, the debate has already begun on the streets.
