MANKWENG – Two police officers stationed at Mankweng Police Station have been released on R2,000 bail each after appearing in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on charges of theft and corruption.

The officers were arrested following an incident on Friday during a visible policing operation along the R71, where they allegedly stole a large quantity of cigarette boxes.

The stolen goods were later discovered in a white Mercedes Benz sedan, which had been abandoned after a police chase.

Police reported that the vehicle had attempted to flee during the stop, but was later found abandoned at Ga Magoa. The confiscated cigarettes will be used as evidence in the ongoing investigation.

The case has been postponed to June 2, 2025.
