NKOWANKOWA-The arrest of two employees working as food service aides at Letaba hospital, Greater Tzaneen, comes after they were found in possession of food parcels allegedly stolen from the hospital’s phosphital food storehouse.
The theft allegedly occurred on Monday, July 11, at the facility. It is reported that the two suspects had knocked off after being on night duty when the vehicle they were traveling in was searched at the facility’s entry point as per protocol.
Allegedly, upon searching the car, the security officer discovered food believed to be for patients stashed away in the boot.
The security officers immediately alerted the management of the hospital and the police were summoned. The two suspects were ultimately arrested on the premises for thievery.
Limpopo MEC of Health Dr. Phophi Ramathuba has welcomed the arrest and commended the security personnel deployed at the health facility for being honourable in carrying out their duties.
“Our department is operating from a shoe string budget as it is. We cannot afford to have leakage of resources caused by unethical and ill-disciplined personnel. We therefore commend the security personnel for doing their work without fear or favour”, She said.
The MEC further reiterated that, they have zero tolerance for acts of malfeasance, corruption and fraud. As such, harsh punishment will be carried out to root out the rot in the department at all costs.
