TUT second-year student from Giyani dies in freshers’ ball stampede

PRETORIA – WEST: The Mabunda family in Giyani are still reeling from the heart-wrenching news of the passing of one of their own.

This follows the untimely demise of one, Carol Mabunda.

According to reports, the 20 – year old ‘mysterious’ died during an annual Freshers Ball bash.

The University confirmed the demise of the student in a media statement.

“The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is saddened to announce the untimely passing of Carol Mabunda, a second-year National Diploma: Contact Management student at the Pretoria Campus.”

The University further said that they are still awaiting official word from the Police

“While we await an official report from the South African Police Services (SAPS), the University is providing the student’s family and friends with as much support as we can at this difficult time.

The family should be afforded the space and the time to process their great loss and to honour the memory of the deceased with dignity.

We call upon the public, including the media, to exercise restraint and sensitivity towards the family at this time of grief,” the statement read

The deceased is originally from Ka-Ngove village under Greater Giyani.
